Rock Walls
Rock climbing challenges and strengthens every part of the body. When climbing, kids have to breathe deeply and this oxidizes the blood flow. Stretching hands upwards to grab a climbing hold increases cardiac output and blood pressure, while using your legs to step on a hold can strengthen the leg muscles.
Other benefits include:
-
Provides cardiovascular exercise for the heart and the lungs
-
Improves balance, coordination, and flexibility that can reduce falls and potential injuries
-
Strengthens musculoskeletal tissue and makes bones, muscles, and joints stronger
Ninja Ramps
Our custom designed ninja ramps come equipped with foot supports and a rope pull for extra support based on ones abilities. Ninja ramps are a wonderful sensory integration activity as they assist in the development of a child's core, legs, and upper body.
Other benefits include:
-
Motor Planning improvement
-
Improves balance and coordination
Swings
Swinging increases spatial awareness. Swinging helps develop gross motor skills—pumping legs, running, jumping. Swinging helps develop fine motor skills—grip strength, hand, arm and finger coordination. Swinging develops a child's core muscles and helps with the development of balance
Other benefits include:
-
Multiple parts of the brain are stimulated
-
Swinging is calming and soothing
-
Swinging is almost entirely learned by ones own motor movements
Monkey Bars
Monkey bars are here to stay. This activity has several benefits. The raising of the arms movement above the shoulders to hold onto the monkey bars increases cardiovascular flow. At the same time they are stretching, which increases their flexibility and improves posture.
Other benefits include:
-
Teaches patience as others use the monkey bars
-
Boosts confidence and self-esteem
Foam Cube Pits
Our foam cube pits are wonderful for deep pressure therapy! The little squeeze that children feel from the cubes when they first fall into the pit provides a calming deep pressure therapy. If you've ever tried to crawl out of a foam cube pit, you know that it requires every muscle in your body!
Other benefits include:
-
Hand eye coordination via catching and throwing cubes
-
Tactile stimulation as the cubes have a squishy sponge like texture
-
Provides the perfect landing spot for those sensory seekers!
Zip-Lines
A zip line is a great way to build upper extremity strength, muscle endurance, and self-confidence as children challenge themselves to hold on long enough to make it to the other end. For children with sensory integration disorders who are fearful of vestibular input, it is a great way to enhance their ability to integrate and tolerate movement. With help and support from an adult, they will be able to build their confidence slowly until they master it on their own and take pride in their increased abilities.
Other benefits include:
-
Endorphin release will provide a calming sensation afterwards
Climbing Ladder
To climb a ladder or rock wall, children must pull themselves up with their hands and arms. This action simultaneously improves their grip, upper body strength, and arm strength. Improved coordination: The act of climbing requires coordination between a child's hands, eyes, arms, legs, and feet.
Other benefits include:
-
Improved sequence planning
-
Solution visualization
-
Sensory awareness
